“That's the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.”

“The Namesake” follows Gogol Ganguli as he navigates growing up in America after immigrating from Calcutta with his family. As Gogol grows embarrassed of his name and his heritage, he feels stretched between two worlds, his family's tradition and modern-day times, as well as Indian and American cultures. This book is perfect for any occasion and is a beautiful coming-of-age narrative. I'm currently reading another one of her books, "The Lowland" and the language is equally beautiful. Lahiri is an author to watch out for not only because of the language she manages to weild throughout her writing but also because of her seemingly effortless ability to weave a story that introduces you to complex and well-crafted characters.
