Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay
Bad Feminist is a collection of eye-opening, brain-churning, and often sneakily funny essays on Gay’s perspective on feminism, how to attempt to deconstruct the male gaze, and how her approach to feminism is one accepting of all.
The title prods at the history of feminism which was dominated by white women and made exclusively only an issue for the white woman. Gay constructs a new dimension to feminism which allows for mistakes (Gay admits that she occasionally fakes an orgasm, dances to the song Blurred Lines, and likes pink).
The essay topics touch on sexual politics, race, friendship, sexual abuse, body image, and so much more. It is a celebration of a unique and eloquent voice that is able to weave seemingly unrelated issues into one masterpiece.
